Laman is a graduate with honors of the University of the Philippines and pursued graduate law studies at the University of Michigan Law School as a DeWitt Scholar. He began his practice as an intellectual property and business lawyer and after founding the law firm CAstillo Laman Tan & Pantaleon in 1981, he expanded his legal practice to corporate law, foreign inveastments, mergers and acquisitions.
